March 22, 2014 was Demo Day for this winter’s class of Kidpreneur students. Kidpreneur is the creation of Thanh Tran, a Detroit area entrepreneur who has a passion for teaching business start-up skills to young people (see www.kidpreneur.co).  In fact, though the program is still in its infancy, Mr. Tran could be creating the Khan Academy of the entrepreneurship world — that’s how powerful this program seems.

Demo Day was held at TechTown Detroit (by the way, Kudos to them and to CEO Leslie Smith for hosting the event) and was attended by nearly one hundred enthusiastic young entrepreneurs and their parents, siblings, and friends. The atmosphere was at once electric, informal, and supportive. The student presentations ranged from handcrafted jewelry to electronics accessories to IOS and Android smartphone apps to Minecraft virtual worlds. Yes, these kids are sharp!

I was pleased to serve on the judges panel for Kidpreneur Demo Day alongside TechTown CEO Leslie Smith, Invest Detroit analyst Stella Safari, and computer games expert Leon Pryor.

Congrats to all involved in the planning and execution of Kidpreneur Demo Day.

A rewarding day for all involved.
