On January 1, 2024, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl and advanced to the National Championship game. I attended the Rose Bowl with my son (and fellow U-M alumnus) Aaron. The game was the climax of a marvelous day and an outstanding family vacation in California. For Aaron, the victory was a sweet counterpoint to four years of disappointing football results during his student days (2007-2011) at Michigan.
On the morning before the game, I completed a personal bucket list item by attending the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. To attend the parade, I woke up before 6 am and drove from my hotel in Glendale to the Rose Bowl parking area. Then I walked to downtown Pasadena to take my position on the parade route. When I looked at my Fitbit later that night, I discovered that I had walked a total of 11.3 miles! All the walking was worth it though, because the parade was spectacular. I recorded most of the event on my iPhone, and now I’m sharing my parade video excerpts with you!
For me, the year 2024 began with a lot of joy and promise, and it is ending with much uncertainty and concern. No matter what happens from here, I’ll always be grateful for that magical day, 1/1/24. The memories will have me smiling for years to come.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2025 filled with joy, fulfillment, and prosperity.
David
