I hardly ever post anything by my kids on this site, but I’m making an exception for this essay by my youngest, Nadiyah. The essay deals with how our blended family has shaped Nadiyah’s identity and awareness. I didn’t know Nadiyah had written this until she brought it home from school, along with a certificate from some national organization that recognized the work as “excellent.” Congrats Nadiyah, and thanks for sharing your insights.

Magic and Me
Magic Johnson was a hero to me because of the leadership attributes he displayed on the basketball court. Those attributes transcended the game of basketball, and inspired a young tech company founder – me – to follow his example. I owe the success I achieved in business, at least in part, to the inspiration I received from Magic. That is why, to me, he will always be the G.O.A.T.

Major Movellus Milestone
Big congratulations to Mo Faisal, Jeff Fredenburg, and the team at Movellus for closing a $23 million Series B funding round. Mo and Jeff are both Ph.D. graduates of the U-M College of Engineering, which is where they began development of the core technology and business concepts for Movellus. The company has developed and patented novel timing generation technology for next generation complex integrated circuits. Their technology provides a potential competitive advantage for semiconductor industry companies. I invested in Movellus’ initial seed round and each subsequent round, so needless to say I’m happy and proud about the company’s achievements to date.

Killing Our Superpower
Today’s atmosphere of division and cultural conflict occurs at a very bad time. We live in a time of unprecedented, accelerating technological change, environmental disruption, and wealth disparity. In this time of heightened fear and uncertainty, things could turn catastrophic very quickly. On the other hand, the unprecedented knowledge and resources we possess could set the stage for humanity’s greatest era. We are poised at the threshold of our brightest times, or our darkest times. That is why now, more than ever, we need to heed MLK’s call to treat each other as brothers and sisters.
