Nine years ago (May 2011), just after Aaron’s graduation from University of Michigan School of Business, he and I took a father/son trip to Africa. We started in Accra, Ghana, where we paid our respects at the tomb of Pan-African leader Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president. We then made our way to the Cape Coast “slave castle,” where our ancestors were held before their forced transport to America. We danced at a Muslim wedding in Elmina. We had a harrowing adventure one night in Togo before traveling on to Benin. While in Benin, we visited Ganvie, a “water village” the Africans constructed hundreds of years ago to escape slave traders.
Aaron and I learned and experienced a lot on this trip. Now, in the midst of the Covid-19 “timeout,” I have finally found the time to share a bit of our adventure in this short (about 28 minutes) video. I hope you find it interesting.
